Happy December all!
I’m still in Los Angeles and I have a new event announcement: Chef David Kuo @ Fatty Mart LA in Venice is hosting a free Made in Taiwan cookbook event, which will include 7 dishes from the book, a Q&A, and a chance to buy limited edition MADE IN TAIWAN aprons made by Hedley and Bennet, and of course — signed copies of the book. I went over today to film us making some of the dishes they’ll be serving from the book.
The event is this Sunday @ 4pm and there are only a couple of spots left. RSVP here.
Other than that, it’s been a whirlwind of a week. My cookbook was listed as one of the New York Times’ best cookbooks of the year (!!!), which is such an incredible honor because to put together this list, they sift through a large pile of cookbooks and actually cook dishes from each book. There’s been a lot of great titles out this year and I’m honored to have made the cut.
We also made the Serious Eats list!
I know these listicles probably seem a bit navel-gazey (and they are), but it’s stiff competition out here and as a debut author, it’s encouraging to be recognized for my work by writers I look up to. Accolades don’t always translate to sales, so the real cherry on top was this email from my editor Justin:
Finally, a new piece of mine was published today! (It’s been a hot minute since I’ve put out any new work)
For Proof @ America’s Test Kitchen, I dug into the history of boba, interviewed reps from the shops in Taiwan who claim to have invented it, and got insights from a Taiwanese food historian. I traveled all around Taiwan to source this episode.
Hi Clarissa, just came back from a week’s visit to Taipei. We used your book to get a real sense of the place and loved it. Very sorry that time didn’t allow further exploration of the island. We’ll go back.
Any live events planned in the Bay Area? It’d be cool to say hi.
